Home-dried Herbs

Home-dried Herbs

If you grow your own herbs at home like we do they sometimes tend to grow faster than you can use them. A great way to use up your herbs is to make your own dried herbs, its really easy and you don't need lots of special freeze-drying equipment, all you need is a bunch of herbs, a piece of string and a warm and dry airing cupboard or kitchen. You can pretty much dry any herbs you have.

1 bunch herbs of your choice
piece of string

Cut the herbs and wash them quickly under the tap then shake dry. Tie the herbs at one end into a bunch then hang them either in your kitchen near the stove, near your boiler or in the airing cupboard .. well anywhere warm and dry.

The warmth will dry the herbs in a few days. Once they are dried and crispy, pick off the leaves and place them in a food mixer or pestle and mortar and crush to a fine powder. Discard the stems.

Store your dried herbs in a air-tight container and they will last for up to 6 months if kept cool and dry.
